Research Associate position at Chapman University

Chapman University invites applications for Research Associate. In addition to their own personal research, the research associate will support projects at the Institute for Quantum Studies which is led by Yakir Aharonov (see quantum.chapman.edu) . Examples include a new journal, an upcoming conference, supporting theoretical aspects of foundations of quantum theory research by other members of the Institute such as novel types of measurement including weak values, modular variables and superoscillations (by contributing to the development of research documentation for publication and/or presentations), and other duties as assigned. This position will require some evenings and weekend work hour. This is a grant funded position. Continued employment is dependent on continuing grant funding. Qualifications include a PhD in theoretical physics or relevant field of research; or its equivalent in research skills and subject matter knowledge by the beginning of employment at Chapman University. Ability to conduct research in a timely manner and document all data. Strong writing skills. Ability to work alone or with student assistants. Ability to collaborate with Principal Investigator and other faculty before and during research. Successful completion of criminal background check required for the final candidate. NIST – U. Maryland workshop on Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS)

This is the “kickoff workshop” for a proposed Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS), created by NIST and the University of Maryland.

Dates: Monday, March 31 – Tuesday, April 1, 2014.

[Note, this is the week after “Complexity Meets Condensed Matter” at the Simons Institute in Berkeley.]

QuARC Microsoft Research Graduate Internship

The Quantum Architectures and Computation Group (QuArC) at Microsoft Research is seeking exceptional graduate students for internships in Spring/Summer 2014. 

Internships are 12-weeks long at Microsoft headquarters outside of beautiful Seattle, WA.  Perks include full salary, housing, subsidized transportation, surprise Microsoft gifts, and more.  Each intern is paired with a mentor from the QuArC team and works on a research project with the aim of achieving substantial, novel results (suitable for publication) by the end of the summer.  Possible topics range from quantum algorithms, to quantum noise modeling, to quantum circuit design, and more.  Please pass this information to interested students.

Postdoc positions at the University of Latvia

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the group of Andris Ambainis at the Faculty of Computing, University of Latvia. Our research group is interested in the following research topics:
– quantum algorithms and complexity theory;
– quantum communication, quantum information theory and cryptography;
– connections between quantum computing and classical computer science (using ideas from quantum information to solve classical problems);
– using ideas from quantum information to study physical systems.

We are looking for candidates with an interest in one or more of these topics. Candidates can be:
– quantum information/quantum computing theorists interested in the topics above or
– classical computer scientists interested in exploring the connections between classical and quantum computer science;

Postdoctoral position at U. Maryland/NIST

The newly-formed Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS) is seeking exceptional candidates for the QuICS Postdoctoral Fellowship in Quantum Information and Computer Science.

QuICS is a joint initiative between the University of Maryland and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. It is located on the College Park campus of the University and is within the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies.

QuICS Postdoctoral Fellows are expected to work in close collaboration with one or ideally more than one Center Fellows, and will have opportunities to interact with leading computer scientists and theoretical and experimental physicists at UMD and NIST. The successful applicant may focus on quantum information, quantum complexity, post-quantum cryptography, quantum algorithms, quantum communication, or a related area. Applicants are encouraged to contact QuICS Fellows directly to inquire about current research interests

The term of appointment is two years, with a competitive salary plus benefits and a small stipend for research expenses.
