Beautiful pictures taken by one of our builders:
The concrete has been stained but not sealed. The above picture is a bit darker than it will be due to the base being covered with some ice. Framing is now underway! Here you can see major progress on the garage:
My favorite pastime: looking at these pictures and then at the amazing details of then architectural plans and back to the pictures… Amazing to watch schematics turn into reality.

Slab
A big pour resulted in a beautiful foundation:
Lots of piping hidden under here. Fun to try to trace what’s what. Good thing the builder labeled them.
Hope the excavator does not fall off the edge. The fog was on top of the site when we showed up, but rolled out and gave us some beautiful sun. I have a feeling I’m going to be doing some time lapse photography in the near future.
Decisions, decisions, decisions. A.k.a. stains.
Infinity drain for bath/shower area.
Footings for the beam that runs the length of the house. Since it’s too late to continue cement work they will place the beams first, make all their adjustments, then fill in afterwards.
Garage now has a foundation.
Our builders have a cool old jetstream that they use to store their equipment.
On Sunday evening it snowed a bit. Temperatures at the site so far have been a fairly consistent minus 2 from downtown Winthrop.
The pour made it easier to get a feel for the height difference between the lower and upper levels. Also the sleeping area off the library, “Max’s room” is really starting to take shape and it’s going to be really cool. The bed at the end of the library will also be an amazing place to sleep. The windows in that room will frame the aspens and have a view back up toward Lewis Butte.

Inspiration for Lisa’s art
The aspens were starting to turn yellow
Labor Day Trip
Camping trip over the Labor day weekend. 10 car backups at the Winthrop 4-way stop!
Construction progressing. Setting up to put in the footings:
Here is a view in relationship to the new cut for the garage
Speaking of which here is the cut for the garage and outlines for the footings
View with trees sanding on the big pile of dirt they excavated.
Speaking of which the excavation uncovered a ton of pretty large rocks, including this beauty
Which we hope to have hauled down to the entrance to our lot to put our address numbering on. Closeup of the rock shows its been moved at some time its geologic past
On Sunday afternoon I hiked up Lewis Butte (about 700 feet) for a nice view of the site from above
View of the old Hasse homestead(?)
Up top with a view back to the Rendezvous
Obligatory Mt. Gardner photo
Coming back down with a view of site and Riser Lake
The fields of grass and brush go for a long ways
New Caelifera Building Site – From Space!
Late July Trip
If you ever visit the North Cascades National Park, don’t just drive up to Diablo or Ross
Lake. Continue on out the out the other side to Washington pass and head out to the viewpoint. This is just the view from the rest areas, don’t want to spoil the best shots:
Moved the tent a bit from last trip. Need to start working on a tent platform.
Pheasants nesting in a bush near Test dog creek:

June Trip
Camping trip with our new Kodiak canvas tent!
A nice way to spend a Father’s day weekend
On Saturday we went for a hike to Goat Peak lookout (didn’t make it all the way due to carrying a three year old on my shoulders and snow). On the way back down we came around a corner and saw this:
Paragliding! Others were launching from just down the road, and they flagged us down to drive their car back down to Mazama. Here is “David” launching
