UNM is searching for a new Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Theoretical Quantum Information Science at the University of New Mexico.  UNM is searching broadly for candidates in a wide variety of areas of this interdisciplinary field.  The new faculty member will join the Center for Quantum Information and Control (CQuIC) cquic.unm.edu.  CQuIC administers a National Science Foundation Focused Research Hub in Theoretical Physics (FRHTP), providing excellent opportunities for collaborations with CQuIC faculty, its partner institutions, and postdoctoral researchers.

IBM ThinkQ conference on approximate quantum computing: Call for registration and poster submissions

The IBM Research THINKQ Conference on “Approximate quantum computing: from advantage to applications”, is scheduled to be held on December 6-8, 2017, at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York. 


Conference description:
 Modest-sized quantum computers now exist in the real world and the next generation of these devices may be too big to simulate on a classical computer. A quantum computer which is too big to classically simulate has an inherent computational advantage of sorts. How can we harness this advantage, sufficiently protect it from noise, and use it to solve computational problems of interest? Can we achieve these goals without incurring large overheads such as those required for fault-tolerant quantum computation? These are the central questions in an emerging field of approximate quantum computing which touches upon areas including quantum advantage, quantum simulation, hardware-efficient algorithms, heuristic quantum algorithms, error mitigation, and more.

Quantum Error Correction Postdoc at Duke University

A postdoc position is available in the Brown lab for a quantum information theorist interested in quantum error correction.  The postdoc will have the opportunity to develop new codes and protocols, to collaborate with quantum computing experimentalists to  implement small quantum error correction codes, and to work with computer architects on minimizing the resource overhead for quantum computation.

QuICS Hartree Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS, http://quics.umd.edu) is seeking exceptional candidates for the QuICS Hartree Postdoctoral Fellowships in Quantum Information and Computer Science.

QuICS is a research partnership between the University of Maryland (UMD) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), with the support and participation of the Research Directorate of the National Security Agency/Central Security Service. Located at the University of Maryland just outside of Washington, D.C., the center advances research and education in quantum computer science and quantum information theory. Ongoing projects at QuICS include theoretical and experimental research on quantum algorithms, quantum complexity theory, quantum communication, quantum error correction and fault tolerance, quantum-enhanced metrology, quantum cryptography and quantum-secure cryptography, implementations of quantum information processing, foundations of quantum mechanics, applications of quantum information to physics, and more.

QuICS Postdoctoral Fellows are expected to work in close collaboration with one or ideally more than one Center Fellows, and will have opportunities to interact with leading computer scientists and theoretical and experimental physicists at UMD and NIST. Successful applicants may focus on any area of quantum information processing. Applicants are encouraged to contact QuICS Fellows directly to inquire about current research interests.

The term of appointment is two years, with a competitive salary plus benefits and a small stipend for research expenses. Doctoral Studies in Quantum Technologies at UCL

Fully funded Doctoral Studentships in Quantum Technologies at University College London

UCL’s CDT in Delivering Quantum Technologies is pleased to announce, following receipt of additional funds from EPSRC and industrial partners, three new Industrial Track studentships.
This is a new type of studentship on our programme which provides:

· Fully funded 4-year studentships including fees, stipend and a generous training and research support package
· Enhanced Stipend (£18,953 per year)
· Innovative MRes in Quantum Technologies in first year of programme
· PhD, in years 2-4, in collaboration with a world-class industrial partner

These Industrial Track studentships, which are co-funded by an industrial partner, allow the student to select the specific theme of their PhD project at the application stage.
