National Science Foundation temporary Program Director
An opportunity to broaden your knowledge, make new contacts, and have an impact on research and funding is available by becoming a temporary Program Director (rotator) at the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Currently, the Physics Division at NSF is considering adding a third member to the team that directs the theoretical and experimental Atomic, Molecular and Optical (AMO) Physics programs and the Quantum Information Science (QIS) program. These programs connect to multiple other scientific areas within the Division and, indeed, across multiple Divisions and Directorates within NSF. The Division seeks candidates who would be able to steward the AMO/QIS programs to take advantage of new intellectual frontiers as they emerge and position the programs to interact with other NSF programs that have an interdisciplinary connection. The extensive cross-NSF interaction of this opportunity offers the incumbent a rare opportunity to expand his or her own intellectual horizons to other sub-disciplines within the AMO-QIS community, and even to other fields such as Mathematics, Condensed Matter Physics, Computer Science, and Engineering.
Learn more about becoming an NSF rotator at http://www.nsf.gov/careers/rotator/index.jsp
Nominations of promising potential candidates (including self-nominations) should be sent to Bradley Keister, the Deputy Division Director () by September 15th. Applications for this position only requires the submission of a CV and a cover letter expressing an interest. This process is described in more detail in the Dear Colleague letter at http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2015/phy15001/phy15001.jsp?org=PHY .
