Chair in Single Phonon Physics at University of Leeds

Job Summary

The University of Leeds UK wishes to appoint a Professor of Single Phonon Physics who will undertake research in Quantum Nanomechanics, Quantum Nano-devices and/or quantum sensing and measurement at the single phonon level. The new professor will lead the capture and deployment of high levels of research funding and, in addition to producing his/her own world-leading research outputs, will build a group in Single Phonon Physics (linking the Condensed Matter and Quantum Information groups through to Engineering and Chemistry) through the recruitment to two further permanent academic posts funded within the new plan and establishing the University of Leeds at the international leading-edge of research in this area.

The University of Leeds has agreed an investment of up to £1.4 million in this appointment. It is also expected that the new Professor of Single Phonon Physics will lead a Strategic Partnership bid to the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to lever additional funding (potentially up to an additional £1 million) to match that agreed from the University.

Postdoc Fellowship: Theory of Spin Qubits

Applications are invited for an Intelligence Community postdoc fellowship ( http://www.icpostdoc.org ) at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. The candidate must be a U.S. citizen with a Ph.D. in condensed matter theory or a related field, and should have a background in quantum information. The project involves the development of new and scalable semiconductor architectures for quantum computation.

The University of Wisconsin has a strong theoretical program in applied quantum computation. Postdocs are encouraged to interact closely with experimental qubit programs in silicon quantum dots ( http://qc.physics.wisc.edu/silicon.html ), as well as Josephson junctions ( http://home.physics.wisc.edu/~rfmcdermott ) and neutral atoms ( http://hexagon.physics.wisc.edu ). PhD/postdoc positions at the Institute for Quantum Information, Aachen, Germany

Applications are invited for PhD and postdoctoral positions at the Institute for Quantum Information at RWTH Aachen University in the group of Norbert Schuch. The research focus of the group is at the boundary between quantum information theory and quantum many-body physics, in particular the application of quantum information tools such as tensor network states to the analytical and numerical study of many-body systems, topological order, and quantum phases, as well as the study of quantum complexity aspects of many-body systems. However, outstanding applicants with other research interests will also be considered.

Postdoc and PhD Positions at Université Libre de Bruxelles

A postdoctoral position and a PhD grant are available as part of a project involving three groups at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Brussels, Belgium):

Postdoctoral Fellow Positions at Center for Quantum Information and Control

The Center for Quantum Information and Control (CQuIC) at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque is seeking at least two postdoctoral fellows (PDF) in the groups of Profs. Carlton M. Caves and Ivan H. Deutsch with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
– Quantum control theory
– Quantum measurement theory and tomography
– Quantum metrology
– Quantum simulation and computation
– Quantum chaos
Candidates are required to have a PhD in physics or related discipline, with a strong background in quantum information theory and/or quantum-optics /atomic-molecular-optical physics. PDFs are expected to work closely with graduate students and participate in CQuIC activities including hosting seminars and visitors.

Heilbronn Research Fellows in Quantum Information

Heilbronn Research Fellows in Quantum Information, which can be found at

These three-year posts are in effect half-time personal postdoctoral
positions (as distinct from posts with a predetermined research
project). The Heilbronn Institute is a partnership between the UK
Government Communications Headquarters and Bristol University, and
while Fellows work half-time for GCHQ, the rest can be used on
whatever research topics they wish.
To recognize the special nature of these posts, there is a salary
supplement of 3.5K pounds per annum in addition to Bristol’s standard
academic salary scales, and each Fellow has a research support budget
of 2K per annum.

Fellows have to satisfy security clearance requirements.
As described in the advertisement and further particulars, the
Director of the Institute is willing to advise on eligibility. Apart
from UK resident UK citizens, current staff include citizens of

Summary of Job Function:
The PDRA will develop adiabatic quantum computation (AQC) algorithms,
specifically applied to machine learning, pattern recognition and
classification, or many-body physical systems; the precise problem(s)
to be solved will be determined by the interests and skills of the
appointed person. The appointee will work closely with collaborators
at ISI in the University of Southern California (USC) under our
“Global Engagement for Global Impact” programme, funded by EPSRC. The
post is funded for a period of 12 months.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Carry out research and be responsible for key aspects of the overall
Research Project focusing on developing algorithms which are suitable
for solution using adiabatic quantum computation.
• Collaborate with co-investigators on the Project together with
collaborators at USC. It is expected that the PDRA will spend a
significant period physically located at USC, in addition to regular
remote interaction with colleagues there.
• Perform “benchmarking” tests of AQC algorithms using hardware at USC
along with comparative tests using conventional cluster tools at UCL.
• Contribute to the drafting and submitting of papers to peer reviewed
journals/conferences/workshops, of progress reports as required, and
of further research bids and proposals.
• Contribute to the overall activities of the centre/department and of
the research team as required.
• Contribute to the induction and training of other research staff and
students as requested.
