Title Quantum Information and Computer Science
    Job Location Cambridge, MA
    Department Quantum Information Processing
Job Description Raytheon BBN Technologies Corp. was established as Bolt Beranek and Newman Inc. in 1948. The company was founded in 1948 by MIT professors Richard Bolt and Leo Beranek, along with Robert Newman, with a vision of starting a small acoustical consulting firm. From its roots as an acoustical design consulting firm, to the implementation and operation of the ARPANET — the forerunner of today’s Internet — to the development of the first network email, which established the @ sign as an icon for the digital age, BBN Technologies provides the same technical expertise and innovation to both government and commercial customers today. These areas of expertise include: quantum computing; system integration; distributed, collaborative applications; speech recognition and language understanding; wireless and satellite networking and network architecture and management; information security; structural acoustics; sensor signal processing; and real-time, multi-processor systems. BBN has more than 700 employees in offices across the US.

BBN is seeking candidates with interest and expertise in quantum
information science topics such as fault-tolerant quantum computation, quantum control and quantum estimation. A research interest in quantum error correction using topological codes is desirable. The ideal candidate would have a track record of publications in one or more of these areas. In addition, the candidate would preferably have an interest in being part of a team focusing on experimental implementations of quantum computers using superconducting qubits and/or quantum optics. The candidate will join a highly entrepreneurial group exploiting quantum phenomena to advance computation, communications and sensing and have an opportunity to support a variety of experimental and theoretical projects. Our recent publications (www.bbn.com/technology/quantum/pubs) provide an indication of the impact of our work on the field of quantum information science.

Advanced degree in computer science, mathematics, and/or physics are desirable.

The ability to obtain a security clearance is desirable.
