Located at the University of Maryland, College Park, just outside of Washington, D.C., the Center advances research and education in quantum computer science and quantum information theory. Ongoing projects at QuICS include theoretical and experimental research on quantum algorithms, quantum complexity theory, quantum communication, quantum error correction and fault tolerance, quantum-enhanced metrology, quantum cryptography and quantum-secure cryptography, implementations of quantum information processing, foundations of quantum mechanics, applications of quantum information to physics, and more.
QuICS Fellows are expected to lead externally funded research groups and carry out cutting-edge research on quantum information. The QuICS Fellows work together to set the direction of the Center, including a robust visitor program, frequent conferences and workshops, Center-funded fellowships for outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, and courses on quantum information topics.
