What, No Search?

Looks like the arXiv is undergoing upgrades right now. Next week the new new id system will be instituted. I expect scirate.com will die.]
Update: Doesn’t look like they made the change. Hmm.

  1. I have seen this voting-on-papers feature on some other websites as well, but I think it’s not a good idea as papers needs to be more deeply assessed rather than just by a simple vote.
    I once wanted to implement a similar thing on Academier (http://academier.com), but left it for the future. I believe it should be a bit more complex; One idea is to assess paper quality based on the # of comments it will receive (and allowing people to vote on comments so we can distinguish well-written comments from pure ones). This is like an indirect voting scheme that I believe works better.

    The goal is not assessment of the science, which is obviously beyond any website or voting scheme. The goal is to deal with the noise of which there is a buttload.
