Two Research Posts at Quantum Photonics Laboratory at Heriot-Watt University

Two Research or Senior Research Associate Posts

Spectroscopy and quantum optics of tunable solid-state quantum emitters

Closing date: 14 May 2011, but applications will continue to be accepted until the post is filled.

The Quantum Photonics Laboratory seeks two talented scientists to undertake research on solid-state spectroscopy and quantum optics. The projects will be conducted within the framework of an EPSRC funded Challenging Engineering grant which aims to create novel quantum photonic devices containing solid-state emitters (III-V quantum dots or defect centres in diamond) coupled to optical broadband antennas for enhanced light-matter interaction efficiencies. The wide ranging scope of the Challenging Engineering grant provides significant flexibility in choosing the precise research topic to be pursued by the candidates.

Each post is for 2 years in the first instance and can be filled at the level of either Research Associate (Grade 6) or Senior Research Associate (Grade 7). Successful candidates will be strongly considered for future Research Associate positions within the Quantum Photonics Laboratory.

Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant topic in experimental Physics or a related discipline with expertise in semiconductor optics or atom optics. One of the posts also offers the opportunity to pursue novel design and nanofabrication of the broadband optical antennas. Hence, experience in semiconductor processing / nanofabrication and nanophotonic design is beneficial. Applicants should have a track record of achieving scientific/engineering advances based on their technical competence. The successful candidates will work alongside other Research Assistants and PhD students – we are looking for a creative and highly motivated researcher who is willing to work as part of a team.

Starting date: 1 June 2011 or as soon as possible thereafter.
