No arXiv support yet, but a cool firefox reference organizer tool to keep an eye on Zotero. Without arxiv support its pretty much useless to me right now, but playing around with it for other sites makes me think it would be extremely valuable.

Why not just use Connotea? It is essentially a Del.icio.us clone, but for citations. They have issues with importing some Arxiv entries, but the software is open source and there are people working on it full-time, so that it should be fixed soon enough (they are open to receiving bug reports as well).
You also have the option of keeping your entries private, sharing your entries with a group of people (e.g. your students).
I’ve used CiteULike and Connotea. There are a few advantages to Zotero and other solutions you host yourself such as refbase (or even a private Connotea installation). The foremost is that you maintain all of your data, so have ultimate control about what you backup & what you share & when it is available (if you host it yourself, you won’t be dependent on a net connection or on having their server be up).
Zotero also has multiple full-time developers & is well-funded & seems like a lighter-weight solution than Connotea. They also have plans for integration with desktop office suites, which seems beyond the scope of Connotea.
I’ve messed around with Connotea and it is nice, but it’s not quite what I’m looking for. What I want is a way to keep tabs of the literature I’m interested in, and have access to this no matter where I am. This means, that a local copy should be downloaded to my computer. It should be able to do this easily when I’m visiting the page where the paper is stored. Connotea and citeulike are good for keeping a list of papers but not good if you’re flying across the country and don’t have internet access. If Connotea or Citeulike added the ability to access what you’ve saved offline I’ll be all over them.
True enough. The idea of having the data locally is a major plus, and running Connotea as is locally is a definite overkill. I think ideally I’d like to have Zotero synch with Connotea, so that I have a backup of my bib out there on the internets, which I can access even when I don’t have my computer with me — in a way, this is like the Firefox extensions that use del.icio.us to store bookmarks.
Either way, any help on organizing references is good.
For what it’s worth, arxiv is on the *very* short list of sites we’re working on making compatible with Zotero…should be up and working very soon…
