LaTeX

This is a test of the render LaTeX plugin.
My first physics TA was an astrophysicist named David Hogg. He told me the following story. He said a friend of his was walking down the street, and, well this friend was really geeky looking so when a truck full of macho guys passed by they yelled out “Hey Geek! [tex]$E=mc^2$[/tex]”. The friend thought for a second, and then shouted back: “Only in the rest frame!”
Because of course everyone knows [tex]$E=gamma mc^2$[/tex]. But of course, having to explain [tex]$gamma$[/tex] is a lot harder than explaining [tex]$E$[/tex], [tex]$m$[/tex] and [tex]$c$[/tex].

New Host

Back up and running. The reason for the downtime was not my being hacked (which I think was due to an insecurity in the WordPress version I was running and resulted in my index page being written over), but instead because I am transferring hosts in preparation for my move to Seattle. I found a pretty amazing deal at dreamhost.com where you can sign up for a year of hosting for like $9. The trick is to use the promotional code 777. Let me know if anyone detects anything funny about the host.

Hacked!

I’ve been hacked! Upgrading and securing. Stay with me.
Update: I’ll fix the style files tomorrow. Now I have to finish writing my talk for tomorrow.

Die Comment Spam Die!

Having gotten sick of dealing with all the comment spam I’ve added a plugin which makes you enter a random code when posting comments. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Update: Well it looks like I’ve broken the comments. Will try to fix tonight.
Update: Fixed. Let me know if anyone is seeing anything strange (beside my ugly mug, of course.)

Power to the Pontiff

Well, over Turkey day, I was at home in the state of Jefferson, so when the power went out and my computer turned off, it shut this website down. I guess it’s time to invest in a UPS.

Moved

Well I’ve successfully moved the site to dabacon.org. Or at least I hope so. It may take a while for the DNS servers to catch up. Let me know if you see anything strange on this new setup.

Moving

Since I’m leaving Caltech (that’s one word people..one word!) I’m going to have to move my blog from transformer.cs.caltech.edu. The blog will be moving to dabacon.org . This change will happen soon: I’m not sure how long I will be able to redirect from dabacon.org to the new domain, so if I go missing, check dabacon.org or www.dabacon.org.

The First Post

Here is the first post to my new blog “The Quantum Pontiff.” What should you expect from this blog? Well, quantum pontification, of course. But also skiing, stonecarving, poker, and other exciting stuff. Well maybe not so exciting for everyone. But I’m sure my mom will like the page.
