Theoretical Physics StackExchange

Correction added 4 Oct: The site is in public beta now.
Correction added 27 Sep: At least for now, the site is in a closed beta, restricted to the people who initially committed to using it. Once that changes, we’ll let you know here.
There is a new Q&A website for theoretical physics started by our own Joe Fitzsimons. Go check it out!
http://theoreticalphysics.stackexchange.com/
The site will remain in beta for 60 to 90 days, at which time it will become a permanent StackExchange website…if there is enough activity during the 60-90 days! So go check out the website, ask and answer vexing quantum questions, and witness the power of crowdsourcing.

  1. Thanks for the ad Steve! I think I should probably clarify somethings though. The decision making process of the StackExchange people is somewhat opaque, and it now appears that we will remain in private beta for a while longer. This means that people who have committed to the site will be able to login and use it, but people who did not commit cannot. However, they have made a concession to us which is that we can now invite people in to the private beta. This seems to be something of an experiment for them, but I think it is probably a very good thing for us, since it means we can begin to grow the community while still keeping the level high. So if there are any physicists who would like to join, they are more than welcome to drop me an email (joe at jfitzsimons dot org), and I’ll send them an invite. Obviously I don’t have full control over this, so if the StackExchange people decide to remove the invitation feature there isn’t much I can do, and so the community would be closed until public beta (which hopefully won’t be very long).

  2. I confirm that it is up-and-running. Joe, my appreciation and thanks go to you and to everyone who has helped create this outstanding resource.
