Well, after the Great Debate, I decided to take the plunge and get….
Yep, a MacBook Pro with a top clock speed and a ton of RAM (what you can’t infer those later things from the picture?) So far things are so good, although I must say, the “it just works,” MacMantra is just a plain lie. Getting LaTeXiT, Leopard, Linkback plugin, and Keynote to play nice together was certainly not something I’d want to force upon most people. However, I guess if your trying to use LaTeX in Keynote, then you’re probably up to the task.
Welcome to the club!
Noo! Another one leaves us for the other side… *teardrop*.
(I’m pretty sure this’ll work out fine and maybe be an improvement for you, so that’s cool, but still, we Windows people are losing brethren, and it’s sad…)
That desktop is horrible.
Oooh, very nice!
My own experiences with a Mac haven’t been too kind; I just say that anyone who claims “it just works” about anything is probably trying to sell you something.
Very nice. (Our tax dollars at work!) 😉
I see from whatever external drive you have plugged in that you are not using Time Machine (on that one anyway). Time Machine r0xrz!
It recently saved me, though I did get a little burnt because I wasn’t backing up as often as I should be.
Regarding Spook’s ill-informed comment, and maybe Domenic’s as well, some people’s brains just aren’t wired for Mac.
Personally, I think those people would be very happy on some sort of Germany 1939-lite version.
The it just works is true, provided you don’t try to do anything interesting with it. In general, apple is great if you don’t need fine-tuned controls.
But maybe I’m just bitter, because I spent a nice while today trying to get our vista box working with the printer plugged into our Airport router, which doesn’t have a web interface. I mean, really now. Give a router a web interface.
But congrats on the purchase! Two things I’ve learned: Quicksilver is your friend, and InsomniaX lets you turn your macbook into a (very expensive, and barely portable) mp3 player.
astephens: sheesh, insult my wife why don’t you?
Why are you switching to Keynote in the first place? You can just as well use Powerpoint. (Yes, Keynote is better, but switching to Keynote is not a necessary part of switching to the Mac.)
