A psuedo-paper dance today: a perspective I wrote just appeared in Science. The perspective is about this paper: “Symmetrized Characterization of Noisy Quantum Processes,” Joseph Emerson, Marcus Silva, Osama Moussa, Colm Ryan, Martin Laforest, Jonathan Baugh, David G. Cory, and Raymond Laflamme, Science 317, 1893 (2007) Check out my raytracing skillz in the picture accompanying the perspective 🙂
Liked both the article and your commentary, Dave!
You commentary concluded: “… We may soon know whether our universe is generous enough to allow for large-scale robust quantum computation.”
This sets the stage for two sequels: “Plan A” for if the answer is “yes”, “Plan B” for if the answer is “no”.
I will venture the suggestion, that—by far—the more pessimistic essay would be “Plan A”!
“… We may soon know whether our universe is generous enough to allow for large-scale robust quantum computation.â€
In my opinion the same question need ask also for spin transistor and spin memory…
I agree anonime. We are rapidly entering an age where the digital and deterministic nature of information will be uncovered for the emergent property that it is.
