I have discovered that I would make a fine film critic, but that there is a difference between a fine film critic and a good scientific book reviewer. I am reminded that my grandfather used to regularly send in letters to the editor of his local newspaper. Is being a bag of inflated opinions genetic? Well, time to throw away my first attempt at a book review, and remind myself that scientists abhor opinions.
> scientists abhor opinions.
You say this after being at SFI for how long?
wait! aren’t you going to post the book review?
Post the book review, goddammit! I like reading non-science things that scientists write.
I meant post the book review and the film review! I just realized your book review is about a science book, but probably the level of th review had to be for an audience less familiar with the field than a specialist.
Damnit Suz, look how far I’ve come from my BFD days. The review is pretty inflamatory, if by inflamatory, I mean in that pent up angst that hounds the losers of the scientific community. Look how weak I’ve become to not even reveal my true feelings about a book. Bah.
OK, maybe I will post the review in the comment section. God, I’m a wimp.
inflammatory = good. I’m trying to get Aram to post his more cynical letters to the NYT in his blog. Nothing will replace the BFD, but we can try.
