{"id":557,"date":"2018-06-10T09:51:33","date_gmt":"2018-06-10T09:51:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dabacon.org\/qspeak\/?p=557"},"modified":"2018-06-10T09:51:33","modified_gmt":"2018-06-10T09:51:33","slug":"postdoc-in-quantum-error-correction-theory-at-sheffield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dabacon.org\/qspeak\/2018\/06\/10\/postdoc-in-quantum-error-correction-theory-at-sheffield\/","title":{"rendered":"Postdoc in quantum error correction theory at Sheffield"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">We have reopened for applications to a theory postdoctoral position at the University of Sheffield working with Dr Earl\u00a0Campbell(<a href=\"https:\/\/earltcampbell.com\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/earltcampbell.com\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1528710547925000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGBGtZcSu4SW5LomcRIE8McLq5JEg\">https:\/\/earltcampbell.com\/<\/a>).\u00a0\u00a0The applicant should have a research interest in developing new architectures for quantum computation using topological codes (e.g. surface and colour codes) and other LDPC codes (e.g. hypergraph and homological product codes).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Topics of interest include:<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; Design of new LDPC and topological error correction codes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; Single shot error correction.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; Code-switching and gauge fixing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; Fault-tolerant computation in QEC codes: including the study of transversal gates, lattice surgery and code deformation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; Decoder software and numerical simulation of thresholds and resource overheads.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; The realistic implementation of QEC codes in distributed architectures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; Magic state distillation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The candidate should have a PhD and research experience in quantum computing theory.
