It employs over 7500 permanent staff, supporting over 52,000 students.<\/p>\n<p>Applications are invited for the appointment to the position at Research Associate level\/ Research Fellow level in Quantum Information Theory at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/science\/physics\/research\/quantum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Quantum Physics Research Group<\/a>, School of Physics. Our theory group leads core research projects in the Australian Research Council\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/equs.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQuS),<\/a>\u00a0and is a joint research collaboration between\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/science\/people\/stephen.bartlett.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Professor Stephen Bartlett<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/science\/people\/andrew.doherty.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Associate Professor Andrew Doherty<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sydney.edu.au\/science\/people\/steven.flammia.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr Steven Flammia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We require a postdoctoral theorist to undertake research in quantum information theory and\/or quantum many-body physics, on topics that align with the research directions currently pursued by the theory group.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Selection criteria for Level A<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applicants for this position must satisfy the following essential criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a PhD in Physics or a related discipline<\/li>\n<li>demonstrated capacity to conduct theoretical research in quantum information theory or quantum many-body physics and work in a team environment<\/li>\n<li>excellent oral and written communication skills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Desirable criteria include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a background in quantum information theory, quantum many-body physics or related areas<\/li>\n<li>a track record of having conducted research independently<\/li>\n<li>a background in quantum information theory as applied to quantum many body systems and spin lattices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Selection criteria for Level B (In addition to essential criteria for level A)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a track record of having conducted research independently;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Desirable criteria include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>demonstrated capacity to co-supervise research students on projects in this area, with assistance and mentoring from senior academic staff<\/li>\n<li>a track record of performing research in quantum information theory as applied to quantum many body systems and spin lattices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The position is fixed term for two years, subject to completion of a satisfactory probationary period for new appointees.
