If you would like to declare publicly that you will not support any Elsevier journal unless they radically change how they operate, then you can do so by filling in your details in the box below.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Why should we boycott Elsevier? We&#8217;ve\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dabacon.org\/pontiff\/?p=5948\">blogged before<\/a>\u00a0about Elsevier and highlighted their support of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act\">SOPA<\/a>. They&#8217;ve also supported and lobbied for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/PROTECT_IP_Act\">PIPA<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Research_Works_Act\">Research Works Act<\/a>.\u00a0As Aram <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.computationalcomplexity.org\/2012\/01\/what-should-we-do.html\">commented<\/a> on Lance Fortnow&#8217;s blog, support for one or more of these is a very direct assertion that you oppose open research and the advancement of knowledge in favor of keeping it behind paywalls and protecting profits. That alone is reason enough, but if you want a few more reasons, go read <a href=\"https:\/\/gowers.wordpress.com\/2012\/01\/21\/elsevier-my-part-in-its-downfall\/\">Tim Gowers&#8217; discussion<\/a>\u00a0of their heinous practice of &#8220;bundling&#8221; a few high-quality journals together with a bunch of low quality journals and forcing libraries to buy the whole package at\u00a0exorbitant\u00a0prices.<br \/>\nWhile you may disagree with choosing such a specific target as Elsevier when many of the problems are endemic to scientific publishing, this is as good a place as any to start, and it can serve as a wake up call to other publishers like Springer that also bundle or to other publishers that supported SOPA <em>et al<\/em>.<br \/>\nIf you are interested in supporting the boycott, then we&#8217;ve helpfully compiled a list\u00a0of every Elsevier journal in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elsevier.com\/journals\/title\/a?pseudotype=&amp;sortBy=Title&amp;SH1Code=P05&amp;letter=A\">computer science<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elsevier.com\/journals\/title\/a?pseudotype=&amp;sortBy=Title&amp;SH1Code=P12&amp;letter=A\">physics<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elsevier.com\/journals\/title\/a?pseudotype=&amp;sortBy=Title&amp;SH1Code=P11&amp;letter=A\">mathematics<\/a>\u00a0to help you stick to your pledge.
