{"id":4568,"date":"2010-11-10T12:35:16","date_gmt":"2010-11-10T19:35:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dabacon.org\/pontiff\/?p=4568"},"modified":"2010-11-10T12:35:16","modified_gmt":"2010-11-10T19:35:16","slug":"quantum-article-parse-failure-of-the-pontiffical-kind","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dabacon.org\/pontiff\/2010\/11\/10\/quantum-article-parse-failure-of-the-pontiffical-kind\/","title":{"rendered":"Quantum Article Parse Failure of the Pontiffical Kind"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two observations from yesterdays New York Times article about quantum computing (<a href=\"https:\/\/myaccount.nytimes.com\/auth\/login?URI=www-nc.nytimes.com\/2010\/11\/09\/science\/09compute.html&amp;REFUSE_COOKIE_ERROR=SHOW_ERROR\">Moving Toward Quantum Computers<\/a>.)<br \/>\nFirst, the drawing accompanying the article (<a href=\"https:\/\/dabacon.org\/pontiff\/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fdabacon.org%2Fpontiff%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost-new.php&amp;reauth=1\">here<\/a>) is interesting to me.\u00a0 I wonder where they got the idea for it and whether this idea involved <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Q*bert\">Q*bert<\/a>, color codes, or topological codes?\u00a0 Or was it just the same old: we have no idea how to draw a quantum computer, so lets just make a cool looking graphic?<br \/>\nSecond, I find this sentence fascinating: &#8220;D-Wave has built a system with more than 50 quantum  bits, but it has been greeted skeptically by many researchers <em>who  believe that it has not proved true entanglement<\/em>.&#8221;\u00a0 Emphasis mine.\u00a0 Okay I find it fascinating not because of the debate about the quantum nature of D-wave&#8217;s machine, but for its language.\u00a0 If there is &#8220;true&#8221; entanglement, what is &#8220;false&#8221; entanglement? \u00a0\u00a0 Further for some reason I can&#8217;t quite pen down the sentence strikes me as awkward.\u00a0 In particular it feels like it needs to be something more like &#8220;that is has not proved that its system possess real entanglement.&#8221; (Yes I understand the sentence, yes I&#8217;m not good at reading comprehension, and yes I&#8217;m beyond pedantic.)\u00a0 Am I the only one having a hard time parsing this sentence<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two observations from yesterdays New York Times article about quantum computing (Moving Toward Quantum Computers.)
