{"id":2342,"date":"2009-06-15T15:56:46","date_gmt":"2009-06-15T22:56:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dabacon.org\/pontiff\/?p=2342"},"modified":"2009-06-15T15:56:46","modified_gmt":"2009-06-15T22:56:46","slug":"microsoft-extreme-computing-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dabacon.org\/pontiff\/2009\/06\/15\/microsoft-extreme-computing-group\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft Extreme Computing Group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dan Reed has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hpcdan.org\/reeds_ruminations\/2009\/06\/microsoft-extreme-computing-group-xcg.html\">brief note<\/a> up about a new group at Microsoft the extreme computing group (XCG) which includes among its subject areas quantum computing:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>XCG was formed in June 2009 with the goal of developing radical new approaches to ultrascale and high-performance computing hardware and software. The group&#8217;s research activities include work in computer security, cryptography, operating system design, parallel programming models, cloud software, data center architectures, specialty hardware accelerators and quantum computing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Also in the news <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/topic\/windows\/?p=3050\">here<\/a>.  Microsoft, of course, has long had a toe in quantum computing, with Microsoft <a href=\"http:\/\/research.microsoft.com\/en-us\/labs\/stationq\/\">station Q<\/a> in Santa Barbara investigating topological quantum computing and related models.
