{"id":1765,"date":"2007-12-22T15:33:21","date_gmt":"2007-12-22T22:33:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dabacon.org\/pontiff\/?p=1765"},"modified":"2007-12-22T15:33:21","modified_gmt":"2007-12-22T22:33:21","slug":"happenings-in-the-quantum-world-december-22-2007","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dabacon.org\/pontiff\/2007\/12\/22\/happenings-in-the-quantum-world-december-22-2007\/","title":{"rendered":"Happenings in the Quantum World: December 22, 2007"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Superexchange in optical lattices, factoring 15 in a linear optics quantum computer, quantum plagarism peaceful resolution, silicon and gallium arsinide quantum computers, and quantum mumbo jumbo in support of the ideas popularly known as God.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencemag.org\/content\/319\/5861\/295.abstract\">Superexchange<\/a> demonstrated in an optical lattice by Immanuel Bloch&#8217;s group in Germany. <\/li>\n<li>Quantum leaps: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brisbanetimes.com.au\/news\/general\/internet-the-speed-of-light-just-a-quantum-leap-away\/2007\/12\/14\/1197568258508.html\">Brisbane Times<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uq.edu.au\/news\/article\/2007\/12\/uq-scientists-make-quantum-leap-research\">UQ News Online<\/a> report on Andrew White factoring 15 with a linear optics quantum computer.  The preprint for this paper is <a href=\"http:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/0705.1398\">arXiv:0705.1398<\/a>.  I didn&#8217;t check, but I bet they got 15 equals 3 times 5.<\/li>\n<li>A resolution to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottaaronson.com\/blog\/?p=297\">quantum plagarism scandal<\/a>.  Hmm, &#8220;quantum plagarism&#8221; sounds like a scheme for optical quantum cloning.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/spectrum.ieee.org\/semiconductors\/processors\/scientists-start-quest-for-the-silicon-quantum-computer\">Sandia Laboratory<\/a> is working on a silicon based quantum computer.
