New Caelifera Rises!

March trip.  Lots and lots of progress…for the first time you can really get a feel for how things are fitting together.  Here is the south side…steel siding is being rusted by a combination of vinegar and salt.

East wall is more rusted:

Inside the view is amazing even through the plastic still on the windows:

So glad we have two doors to open up this area onto the big patio they will be pouring:

Building is complicated:

This is working out to be one of my favorite views.  Its hard to see Mt Garner against the white of the clouds here, but this black metal frames it like a picture and its awe inspiring:

Framed!

We have framing for the roof:

This wall is really tall.  The sliding door that covers it may require an adult to move:

Long library.  Left is Max’s bunk:

Steel beam.  More welding needed to secure

Windows for the master, bath and bunk room:

Very little snow, but lots of frost.

A big pour resulted in a beautiful foundation:

Fog like waves

Lots of piping hidden under here. Fun to try to trace what’s what. Good thing the builder labeled them.

Hope the excavator does not fall off the edge. The fog was on top of the site when we showed up, but rolled out and gave us some beautiful sun. I have a feeling I’m going to be doing some time lapse photography in the near future.

Decisions, decisions, decisions. A.k.a. stains.

Footings for the beam that runs the length of the house. Since it’s too late to continue cement work they will place the beams first, make all their adjustments, then fill in afterwards.

Our builders have a cool old jetstream that they use to store their equipment.

On Sunday evening it snowed a bit. Temperatures at the site so far have been a fairly consistent minus 2 from downtown Winthrop.

The pour made it easier to get a feel for the height difference between the lower and upper levels. Also the sleeping area off the library, “Max’s room” is really starting to take shape and it’s going to be really cool. The bed at the end of the library will also be an amazing place to sleep. The windows in that room will frame the aspens and have a view back up toward Lewis Butte.
